What it means
The user is known but not available right now. The destination exists, it simply cannot take the call at this moment. Often a registration or availability problem.
SIP/2.0 480 Temporarily Unavailable
Common causes
- The endpoint is not currently registered
- Do not disturb is enabled
- No device is online for the user
- The call rang out with no answer and timed out
- The carrier reports the subscriber as unavailable
How to fix it
- Check that the destination device is registered
- Look for do not disturb or forwarding rules
- Confirm at least one device is online for the user
- Extend ring timers if calls time out too soon
- For carrier calls, retry or confirm the number is in service
See it in your own trace
Paste a full SIP or Asterisk log into the decoder and ladder tools to see exactly where this response appears in the call and what led to it. Everything runs in your browser, so your logs never leave your device.
